Protagonist
After introducing your book and discussing what you would like to focus on throughout these nine weeks, we will look at your protagonist's outer and inner qualities, and the different ways you can enhance these and get the character into a reader's heart faster.
Antagonist
Every story needs a bad guy, someone the reader loves to hate. But this week we will look at the ways that you can make your reader love the antagonist just as much as they love the good guy, in order to create added conflict.
Secondary Characters
The cast of your book needs to be as colourful and multilayered as your protagonist and antagonist. This week we will look at how to make all of your characters larger than life.
Character Growth
Every character goes through a transformation within your book. This week we will look at different ways you can heighten this journey for the reader.
Plot
The plot of your novel is what keeps the reader moving from start to finish. This week we will look at ways you can raise the stakes throughout the different sub plots and turning points.
Strong Beginnings
The first few chapters of your book are what hooks the reader in. This week we will look at your book's beginning with a focus on sharpening this hook by studying backstory, conflict, and your character introductions.
Setting
The settings of your book can breathe life into your fictional world, but how do you keep the heart beating? This week we will dive deeper into your world and enhance its vibrancy by making it a character in itself.
Memorable Moments
Some scenes will stay with your reader long after they turn the last page. This week we will look at the different types of memorable moments that make readers remember your story forever.
Narrative Voice
This week we will look at the ways you can enhance your writing voice and pretty up your prose.
We will also introduce the topic of next term's class, and what elements might benefit you most moving forward.
